Saturday 24th October saw the launch of the new Bandon Farmer’s Market website, which took place at the market that morning. In keeping with tradition, it rained on launch day, and the gusting winds almost blew the stalls away! But that didn’t stop the merry band of regular market goers turning up to shop as usual, and enjoy Irish Apple Juice and the richest chocolate cake ever from Heaven’s Cakes to celebrate the introduction of the market to the world wide web!.
The market was organised in April 2006 by a dedicated committee of food lovers, myself included, and it has gone from strength to strength since then. The new website gives a real insight into the type and quality of produce on offer, much of which comes from a very tight radius of the town itself, and all seasonal. Bandon market provides an opportunity to meet the people who made or grew the food , and to re-establish the valuable connection between producers and shoppers. Using the market supports local artisans and boosts local economy. You can log onto the website via my links page to see what’s on offer from the stalls, get information on market news and events, and avail of some of my special farmer’s market lunch recipes. See also the special stallholder section with stallholder application form. Hope to see you at the market one day!
