There is nothing quite as bad as over chilled, hard and tasteless tomato in a sandwich or salad. Tomatoes don’t like the cold, and as such, should never be refrigerated. Keep them in a bowl on the worktop, where they will stay at room temperature, which allows the fresh sweet flavours to shine through when eaten. Try if possible to buy them still on the vine, as these tomatoes are usually fully ripened before picking and usually have a lovely red colour.
